Orthodontics
 Orthodontics is the treatment of irregularities in the jaw and teeth. Oftentimes, people assume that means braces, but it actually involves a wide range of services and treatments. Working with our staff at Great Grins for KIDS - Portland, we will examine the patients alignment and structure. We can then discuss areas of concerns and options available.When considering treatment, we tend to consider one of three categories including: Preventive OrthodonticsPreventive treatment are steps we take in an attempt to alleviate the need for larger treatment later on. This includes interceptive orthodontic treatments designed for children before their teenage years. The focus of preventive orthodontics is reviewing the shape of the dental arches, evaluating early baby teeth loss, and discussing habits like thumb sucking. Certain orthodontic devices and procedures are more effective in younger patients before the face and jaw have completed formation. Early interceptive treatment may be best for your child. But many orthodontic procedures can occur at any age. Limited OrthodonticsLimited Orthodontics refers to the number of teeth being adjusted. It can be categorized as minor treatment, often limited to the front most visible teeth. Limited treatment typically does not address a number of malocclusions or bite corrections, it also does not include back teeth spacing closures, or transverse dental issues. Comprehensive OrthodonticsComprehensive orthodontics is what most people think of when they think of orthodontic care, it is the placement of a corrective device, including braces, to move and correct your bite. Comprehensive care is the specialized, guided movement of your teeth. Benefits of Orthodontic CareThe benefits that come from orthodontic treatment are significant. Patients experience better oral health and increased self esteem. Having your mouth and teeth function appropriately is a huge benefit. Without a good bite, it can be difficult to have clear speech, and even to chew food efficiently.
