How to Get Kids Excited About Their Oral Health

Posted on 5/20/2019 by Fariba Mutschler
How to Get Kids Excited About Their Oral Health"Yay! It's time to brush and floss!" These are probably not words that you'd expect to come out of your child's mouth, but we're here to help you make oral health an exciting and fun time for your family.

Make Every Job a Game

Finding the fun in every chore is a great way to make not only chores like dishes and laundry more interesting, it works on your child's oral health as well! For starters, make a special shopping trip with your child to pick out a 'new and fancy' toothbrush. Don't forget the kid's toothpaste and specially flavored floss as well!

Often when a child has a say in choosing the tools for the job, they become more excited and enthusiastic about the process. Choose a toothbrush that sings a song or lights up for two minutes at a time, this can help your child brush for the recommended length of time. What about special shaped flossing tools? Everything from animals to dinosaur shaped tools are available, help your child find a favorite.

Join in the Fun

When it's time to brush, children will do better and be more interested if they have a caregiver joining them. Make sure that you each have a mirror so that you can both monitor your progress and put on a fun song and brush your cares away! Children learn my example and they love to imitate, so pull out all of the stops and get yourself in there with them!

Adventure is Out There

Check out some good children's books from your local library and learn about oral health with your child, we have a list of recommended books available, so give our office a call today. My daughter was a little nervous to have her dental work done but everyone in the office was super friendly and very reassuring and that helped her nervousness go away. Thanks for the excellent dental experience. ~ Lilyana G.
