The Benefits Kids Get from Multiple Toothpaste Flavors

Posted on 8/20/2018 by Fariba Mutschler
The Benefits Kids Get from Multiple Toothpaste FlavorsTeaching your children to brush their teeth on a regular basis—at least twice each day, and preferably after every meal—is an important part of getting them off on the right foot, health-wise.

A part of teaching them to brush regularly is helping them to enjoy the activity and not view it as a chore that must be accomplished. As we all know, children will rarely do something simply because it has some potential benefit down the road; if they don't obtain an immediate benefit from doing something, they simply will not do it.

Given this behavior, you should consider experimenting with different flavors of toothpaste for your child. This will have a few different benefits, and will result in better foundational oral hygiene practices.

Staving Off Boredom
For one thing, giving your children multiple flavors will help keep them from getting bored with the whole brushing routine. This, in turn, helps them to make it into a habit—a habit that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.

Children are easily bored and, when they get bored, it is challenging to get them to continue with a given task. Keeping things interesting by regularly switching toothpaste flavors will help the brushing task seem less like a chore and more like an enjoyable activity.

Adding Enjoyment
Another benefit of multiple toothpaste flavors is enhanced enjoyment. We encourage our patients to help their children brush regularly, and part of this is making the task enjoyable. We frequently hear from parents who are struggling to get their children to brush without constant reminders.

Giving your children multiple flavors—and allowing them to choose these flavors for themselves—can make a huge difference in the struggle to teach them to properly brush.

My daughter was a little nervous to have her dental work done but everyone in the office was super friendly and very reassuring and that helped her nervousness go away. Thanks for the excellent dental experience. ~ Lilyana G.
