Dental Care For Kids With Special Needs

Posted on 5/8/2023 by Fariba Mutschler
Dental Care For Kids With Special NeedsLocating a pediatric dentist that specializes in treating a child with special needs is essential if you have one. Your youngster will be more at peace if the dentists are well-trained and use a kid-friendly approach.

People with special needs have long-term physical, behavioral, emotional or developmental conditions. They are often unable to conduct daily tasks and require more comprehensive dental and medical care.

Cleft lip and palate, Down Syndrome, neurological diseases, hemophilia or other blood conditions, heart conditions, vision, and hearing impairments, and learning and developmental challenges are some of the conditions we see in our practice. We skilled to address all those disorders.

Patients With Special Needs Have Common Dental Problems

Special needs children are more prone to suffer from dental issues. Gum disease and cavities in the teeth can be brought on by sugary drugs, food restrictions, and a general inability to eat.

Some children's brushing and flossing habits may also be challenging to learn. Additionally, some youngsters have difficulties opening their mouths fully due to issues with jaw development.

Many of the issues we deal with in special needs care are universal, such as preventing and treating tooth decay. However, children and teenagers with special needs are more likely to suffer from several common dental problems, like tooth eruptions being delayed, teeth that are crooked or missing, rotting of teeth, or teeth grinding. Special needs children are more prone to oral health issues than others.

As each child is unique, so are their dental needs, and we are here to make sure every need is met. Children with special needs require patience, compassion, and understanding; if your child has a disability, we are here to assist them. Please contact us today if you have any questions or concerns about your child's oral health.
My daughter was a little nervous to have her dental work done but everyone in the office was super friendly and very reassuring and that helped her nervousness go away. Thanks for the excellent dental experience. ~ Lilyana G.
