Common Questions Kids Ask When Going to the Dentist

Posted on 8/10/2018 by Fariba Mutschler
Common Questions Kids Ask When Going to the DentistAt our pediatric dental office, we see a lot of kids. We know that one thing kids like to do is ask questions. Some of the questions they ask us have nothing to do with our pediatric practice, yet there are plenty of common questions they seem to come up with.

One of the first things people learn in this office is god answers to the cost common questions. These are what the kids are asking me.

Questions out of Fear

It is normal for kids to have some anxiety when they have to go to the dentist. Many of the most common questions come from that anxiety. They also come from the fear of the unknown. This is what kids ask us.

•  Will it hurt? - No child wants to experience pain. The answer we give to this is that most of the things that we do are completely painless and if something might hurt, we have lots of ways to stop the pain before it starts?
•  Why do my teeth fall out? - Losing baby teeth is normal, but many kids don't like it when their teeth are loose or when they fall out. The tooth fairy helps some and so does reassurance that new teeth will grow in soon.

Other Common Questions

These questions can put a smile on people's face or are due to a child not wanting to do certain things.

•  When I get my wisdom teeth, will it make me smarter? - Only if you work at it.
•  Do I have to brush every day? If you don't want to have to take trips to see us because your teeth hurt, you do.
•  Why do I have to floss? - Flossing gets rid of the bacteria between your teeth that can cause cavities.
•  Why use toothpaste? Toothpaste helps keep the teeth whiter, stronger and healthier. It is like using soap on your body.

The great thing we realize at our pediatric dental office is that there are no bad questions to ask. If a child is curious about why they do things or what is going on at the office, it is better to give a good answer than to have them try to come up with their own answers. If you have any questions or if your child is curious, please contact our office.
